Children’s Day Event
Children’s Day Event
The Powerful Young Project (PYP) Team host an annual Children’s Day event for over 250 children in Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos, Nigeria.
Our yearly children’s day event is tagged; Let’s Have Fun Giving Back.
Since 2015, we have organized a fun Children’s Day celebration for our current and past students, who on that day, engage in educative, socially responsible and fun-filled activities. In our first year, the children painted a zebra crossing, a school gate and cleaned an entire public primary school in their community. The 2nd year was focused on waste management and environmental cleanliness so they learned about recycling. They designed and we donated three waste bins to a public school, in the community. The 3rd year, the students cleaned a school and the surrounding street, and the following year, in addition to cleaning another school, the students painted mugs with goodwill messages for donation to an orphanage. During our fifth year, we partnered with Greenhill Recycling to teach the students about environmental sustainability, the children learned about separating waste properly, recycling and creating beautiful gifts with waste materials found at home. Yearly this is done in a bid to achieve one of the objectives of PYP; to inculcate in our children, a sense of social responsibility.
For fun, there is usually a movie viewing, face-painting, obstacle course games and other fun activities including spelling bee, math quizzes, charades and talent hunt games with so many prices to be won. We also give out Edu-Care packs to our present pupils sponsored by wonderful people within and outside the community.
