BOOK DRIVE PROJECT 2020
BOOK DRIVE PROJECT 2020
INTRODUCTION
The powerful young project held its Book Drive Project on the 8th of September, 2020, at 23 road market, W Close, Block 6. This project was aimed at encouraging reading culture among students as well as make books available to them, this, we did by calling for donation of books through reaching out to bookstores online, our volunteers and also, people around us to donate books they are no longer in need of, some who do not have books donated money which helped us in providing for the other materials that helped us in carrying out this project.
This project was originally scheduled to be carried out on world book day which was marked on March 5th, 2020, but because we wanted to gather enough books that would go round for all the schools we initially planned on going, we decided to hold on for other bookstores that promised to reach out to us.
Unfortunately, the time we were planning on re-scheduling a new date coincided with the lock down restriction order that was brought about by the CoronaVirus Pandemic which made us put all PYP activities on hold untill when the situation had calmed down.
On June 4th, the Federal government announced a partial lockdown which allowed for businesses to ease into beginning operations without restrictions ever since then, there has been a further increase in economic activities taking place in the country which warranted us to resume our activities thereby making new plans towards carrying out the Book Drive Project.
Our plan earlier was to take these books to some selected schools for distribution but because of the pandemic, the only students allowed to be in school right now are those in SS3 making us to change strategy by deciding to get a stand where we would place a shelf to display the books for students to come and pick up, which we made preparations towards.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
We began setting up around 9am at the venue, we placed the banner and all other materials at the appropriate places and by 10am, we had fully set up to begin the event.
Immediately we finished setting up, we had our first student come by to check the books, after which she picked one, and took a picture. The process was almost the same with the others aside from some that refused taking pictures but still took books.
By 3:30 pm, the students coming in could no longer find books appealing to them anymore as they have been carted away by the students that came early which made us bring the event to an end.
CONCLUSION
With a grateful heart we say thank you to the community for their hospitality, there was no trouble from any angle, we thank the parents who stopped by as well for their kind words and generosity, we also appreciate all our sponsors, those that donated cash and books, for making this project possible, God bless you all and finally, we give all praises to God for the success of the event and the opportunity to impact into the lives of the students.
