An Exciting Outlook for 2020

Happy New Year to you!!!

The holidays are over but we hope you had fun and enjoyed the period while it lasted. During this time the PYP team have been reviewing 2019 and cooking up exciting plans for our 2020 student community.

We have some ambitious projects this year but before we dive right into listing them, let’s have a brief review of 2019. For a complete report of 2019 check here and then skip to our plans for the new year!

PYP in 2019

2019 was a very eventful one for us at PYP starting with our tutorials which ran all through the weekend from the 23rd March – 20th July, 2019.

We introduced the Hello Class, a special tutorial which was designed  as a supplementary lesson for PYP students who had issues with their Mathematics and  English. The aim was to provide these students with a focused group tutorial to help bring them up to speed within 6 months.

We had our Children’s Day event tagged “Let’s Have Fun Giving Back”. It was larger than all the previous years and we bet both our students and all the children that came had an unforgettable experience. A summary of the event and pictures can be found here 

Our Summer Program for 2019 was epic. We launched a design thinking program for our alumni to run concurrently with the usual summer program where our students are engaged in life studies ranging from confidence and self identity, etiquette and grooming, Nigeria and patriotism, goal setting and time management up to creative arts and crafts. We rounded off the year with presentations from the design thinking class and the Discover Nigeria project for the summer. For more about the Summer click here

Plans for 2020

• 2020  Common Entrance Tutorial Program: Our usual tutorial program that kickstarts PYP for the year is just around the corner. This year we are planning to once again welcome 120 pupils from the public primary schools in our community. Updates will be coming your way soon. If you want to volunteer as a teacher, don’t hesitate to shoot us an email. 
• Hello Class: Yes Hello Class will be back and better. Recruitment for Hello Guides are in the works. This time we added a new twist to get parents more committed to their children’s improvement. We are also reaching out to those interested in financially giving a child the opportunity to learn to read. Feel free to reach us if you want to be a part of this.
• Book Drive Project: We are introducing a new project for the year, Book Drive project. If you went to a private school and had an open day, remember the booths with various books for parents to buy for their kids? The public school kids do not have this opportunity and we felt it is time they did. We would be collecting neat used books and drive by selected public schools with our bundles of books and a booth to boot.  Would you like to  to be a part of our donor network? Then reach out to us if you have any neatly used child friendly books that you’d like to give out, we’re targeting the open day date which is on the 18th and 19th of February, 2020. 
• Summer School/Discover Nigeria Project: PYP without summer is like a burger with just lettuce inside. So definitely we will be having our summer school. Look out for the twist in the Discover Nigeria Project for this year. More information will come your way soon. 
• Design Thinking Program: Design thinking is here to stay and this year we would be taking lessons from our first edition to make it better. Watch this space for more news of this. 
• PYP Scholarship/Student-in-Training Program: Our scholarship kids enjoy an academic guidance and mentoring program that we thought to extend to other PYP alumni who have showed commitment to learning and changing their world. In addition, we would be having an apprenticeship scheme for the seniors. This is exciting for us and we would share more in the future
• Internship program for alumni: We intend to recruit our alumni into an internship program aka Hello Guides. It is time for them to give back and of course benefit from the experience. 

• PYP Partners Program: There is nothing like working with PYP partners to enhance potentials of young people and make impact in the world. We have a lot of benefits for our partners this year. If you haven’t joined the PYP family yet, i think it is time right? Let’s change the world together.
